Common Cause Variation

A type of variation (a.k.a. Noise) that reflects a natural or random variability that generally comes from within the process.  Some examples include variation caused by poor design, normal wear and tear, poor environmental factors, poor maintenance, etc. This can be contrasted with Special Cause Variation.
