Dead Right But Still Dead

Have you ever been "dead right" about something but still encounter resistance?  It reminds me of one of my favorite quotes how "you can be dead right, but still dead".

One of my favorite quotes is "You can be dead right, but still dead".

You see, it doesn't matter how right your solution is or how logical, rational, or accurate it is - if you don't have the support or buy-in from the key decision maker, then you're still dead.  It doesn't matter if that decision maker is a leader in your organization, the people who represent the culture in your organization, or even your significant other at home - without their buy-in or support, your solution doesn't matter.

This is a critical concept in change management like if you're leading a continuous improvement project.  If you're like me and love to do statistical analysis, it's easy to get so engrossed in that and stand back and marvel at how wonderful your solution is - but that solution will never get implemented if you don't get the right people bought in.

Sometimes it's better to have your imperfect improvement implemented than to have your perfect solution suppressed.
